Students all undertake a pastoral placement during the summer months. This will usually be work in a parish, in their own diocese where possible.
Pastoral work within Rome is limited because of the need to speak Italian. Some students help each week in the soup kitchen run by the Sant’Egidio community in Trastevere. Others work with the Missionaries of Charity in their hostel for homeless men.
New opportunities are beginning to open up for further voluntary pastoral ministry within Rome.
A vital aspect of pastoral work is the service each student gives to the others in daily life within the Beda community.
Studies at the Beda are all orientated to future pastoral minstry.
Reflection on past and present experience is an important aspect of every academic course.
Included in the study programme are courses on pastoral theology.
Detailed preparations are given for all the practical aspects of ministry .
